Yes, As Foxy has revealed, my name is Graeme. We met at the Renishaw fair a couple of months back and waxed lyrical about the joys of solo playing. Apparently I'd been the subject of some debate following a couple of posts I published to a thread where Ralph was discussing his league:

Have fun Ralph, I am only 34 seasons behind you. My first solo league starts on saturday 28 August, same day as the First Division 1982/3 season which I am doing.

Re: hos your subbuteo summer going?
Few weeks ago I played a home tournement (The Rainbow Cup) with my cousin in Catalonia. 16 monochrome Santiago teams Mark Parker painted for me last year. All red team won. I recently bought some marvellous HW from Ian Brown. I am selling a ref 48 plastic "pale" flesh and an Astropitch through the italian forum. I am observing ebay and noticing the same as you...... Anything else? Most of the time I am with my wife and my recently born daugther and I feel good.
All the best
Alessandro

Great stuff Gullseye! I can't emphasise more the joys of playing out a full solo league season. You're guaranteed weeks of entertainment.
As Foxy said at Renishaw, "The excitement of pinging one off the bar ... " Hope you don't mind me quoting that - inspirational stuff!
Prior to Renishaw I'd never met anybody else who ran a solo league, so it was great to meet somebody else with the same sort of enthusiasm for it.
And Ralph - great to hear you're starting your next season the same weekend as me. I always find the start of a season so nailbiting. Will last year's top teams keep their form? How will the various transfers made during the pre-season perform at their new teams? Who will shine unexpectedly, or show early promise only to later drop away?

Scottish 2nd Division only this weekend...1st Round League Shield (Division 2 clubs only)....Scottish Divison 2 League season starts 7th (24 clubs you see only 22 in the rest ) and English Divisons and the Scottish Premier on the 14th...2 points for a win..1 substitute only.. football as it should be played

Re: hos your subbuteo summer going?
These sort of posts bring back so many memories of my formative years............hours spent playing a solo season with a league, FA Cup, League Cup and European Cups. I just wonder what you guys keep in the way of records. I used to love writing out the team sheets for each, selecting the line up (admitedly easier in those days (the late 70's) with smaller squads and most teams having a relatively settled first choice line up............rotation.........why would you leave your star players out
I used to keep stats.........all handwritten of course in those pre computer days...........I even used to make programmes for the cup finals and had a mate who whilst he was also a player, would love to come and watch my solo games!

Someone watching your solo play... That's called Doggin' down my way
Have done all my squads for my next season ( 79 / 80 ) should start about the middle of Aug .All appearances , goalscorers , subs etc all written down , squared exercise books for apps , normal ruled for fixtures , got 24 seasons worth of info , inc friendlies and W.Cups .No Tottenham or Crystal Pal this season though (bottom two in Div 4 last season )been replaced with Brighton (first time I ve ever had them in my League ) and Swansea .Gary Lineker will be partnering Alan Young up front for my lads , can't wait

We keep League Tables,Cup results and leading goalscorer records but not appearances ..I've spent the last couple of months putting mine onto a memory stick for my Scottish League - all done now next summers close season project is to get the Internationals up to date they sort of lapsed a few years back we need to fill in the gaps...

Almost decided to do 79/80 as it was our first season in the top flight ,but opted for 82/3, our last season. Fast forward a bit and Youngie was playing up front for us. Good player, shame we didn't have Peter Ward then, would have made a great little and large partnership.
